The Marian Grotto of Our Lady of Arigbo

Like the Notre-Dame de Lourdes sanctuary in Paris, the Grotte Mariale Notre-Dame D'Arigbo in Dassa-Zoumè in Benin is a hotbed of Christianity. According to legend, the virgin Mary would have made an appearance there. An annual pilgrimage takes place there each year; he has was initiated in 1954 by Bishop Louis Parisot, missionary in Dahomey (former name of Benin) from 1909 to 1912, then from 1919 to 1960. More than six thousand Catholic Christians there come to meditate and strengthen their faith over several days during the month of August. These faithful Catholics generally come from Benin, the countries of the sub-region and a few countries internationally.
