The magic door Akaba Idénan


Located not far from the royal palace of Kétou, the magic gate "Akaba Idénan" is a site unmissable having had a glowing historical past that sets it apart. Etymologically, "Akaba" means "door" and "Idénan" means "who blocks the way". According to history, the magic gate "Akaba Idénan" indicates the main entrance to the city of Ketu. She was abducted by King Guézo (former King of Abomey) during his reign. But the door is came back on her own. In addition, it is represented in duplicate through a male gate which allows access to the outside of the city and the female door to enter the interior. Thus this door from the point of view of worship, is a real defense strategy vis-à-vis the invaders.
