The royal palace of SAVALOU
Like other cities in Benin, the city of Savalou also has a royal palace. Savalou is a royal line allied with the kingdom of Abomey. This royal line is represented by the "GBAGUIDI" family which literally means "Mighty Chief". The emblem of the royal palace of Savalou is the Ox which is explained by a ferocity in connection with the "GBAGUIDI" family. The atmosphere in the royal palace of SAVALOU is quite particular in mid-August during the traditional festival which formalizes the release of the yam.
