Zangbéto Kpakliyawo temple

Located at the entrance to the city of Porto-Novo and opposite the Honmè Museum, ‘’ Kpakliyawo ’’ is the supreme chief of the night watchmen commonly called in the local language Goun "Zangbéto". Culturally, "Zangbéto" is a secret society for insiders. For uninitiated people, it is usually represented by a mask. These night watchmen ensure the protection of the inhabitants as well as that of the King of Porto-Novo against the invasion of enemies and criminals. The temple is represented by a large building in height, like a mask representing the supreme leader. It is open during ritual ceremonies. However, if you are passing through Porto-Novo, you can even visit it by appointment or simply contemplate it from the outside.
