The temple of the 9-headed (Porto-Novo)

The temple of the 9-headed (Porto-Novo) monster "ABESSAN" or the temple of the 3 hunters It is a sacred place intended for the nine-headed deity "ABESSAN" or also called "ABORI MESSAN ”.

The temple is built in the form of a giant terracotta termite mound of Red color.

Several legends explain the origin of this deity. But whatever the version, the origin of this deity is linked to the Yoruba ethnic group of Porto-Novo.

The only solution to know the history around this deity, is to visit the temple in the company of his guardian.
